A Safe Space for Our Youth in Estevan

Estevan is getting a child-friendly interview room. Let's celebrate this community win!

Imagine a world where our children feel safe and supported, even in the toughest times. A recent initiative in Estevan is making this dream a reality. The Government of Saskatchewan has allocated over $56,500 to create a child-friendly interview room for young victims of crime. How fantastic is that?

This space isn’t just a room; it’s a beacon of hope for those who have faced distress. Equipped with nurturing furniture, soundproofing, and proper recording equipment, this room is designed to enhance the emotional well-being of youths during interviews. It allows children and teenagers to express themselves freely, fostering a trustful environment where their voices matter.

And get this: Since its launch, the Criminal Property Forfeiture Fund has returned over $10 million to Saskatchewan communities. This funding comes from proceeds of crime, notably from tackling drug trafficking. So, when we talk about community safety, it also means redirecting funds from unlawful activities to promote healing and support.

What does this mean for families? It means you can walk in your community knowing that there’s a safety net for your loved ones. Estevan Police Service Chief Jamie Blunden beautifully stated, “This new space will serve as a resource for law enforcement, social services, and other support organizations.” Each step taken is a stronger step towards a secure future for our youth and our community.

As we celebrate this milestone, let’s continue championing initiatives that prioritize our children's well-being. Your support, advocacy, and involvement can help pave the way for more positive changes. Together, let’s inspire a brighter tomorrow!
