Rebuilding Hope: The Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village After the Fire

On April 18, a tragic fire broke out near the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village, destroying the Visitor Centre and irreplaceable artifacts that told the stories of generations of Ukrainian Albertans.

The swift actions of first responders saved many historical buildings, but much has been lost. The Visitor Centre was home to reception areas, exhibits, and collections that showcased the rich Ukrainian culture and history.

Currently, efforts are underway to clean up and restore the site. Although the Village will be closed for the rest of the season and summer events have been cancelled, the commitment to preserving and celebrating Alberta’s Ukrainian heritage remains strong.

Our community and heritage are treasures we must protect. Join us in honoring the resilience of the Ukrainian community by attending Ukrainian Day on August 24 at the Alberta Legislature Grounds. Let's come together, celebrate, and look forward to a brighter future for the Village!
