New Regulations to Protect Saskatchewan Farmland!

Hey there, Saskatchewan farmers and land enthusiasts! We’ve got some important news that affects everyone interested in our beautiful province’s farmland. On October 14, 2025, Agriculture Minister Daryl Harrison announced new amendments to the Saskatchewan Farm Security Regulations. These updates are designed to keep farmland Canadian-owned and ensure it’s being regulated properly.

The biggest change? Previously, the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) was allowed to own farmland, but that exemption is now gone! This means that CPPIB can't acquire any more farmland in Saskatchewan, aligning our laws with those for other pension plans. No more foreign ownership!

The amendments also clarify how the Farm Land Security Board can enforce compliance. They can now impose penalties of up to $10,000 for violations of the regulations. For example, if a non-Canadian resident buys more than 10 acres of farmland, that could lead to a fine.

This move supports Canadian farmers and ensures that our agricultural land stays in the hands of those who cultivate it. So let's keep our farmland in the family!
