Community Safety Efforts Shut Down Troubling Property in Edmonton

In a significant move for community safety, the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) unit in Alberta has successfully closed down a problematic property located at 6707 32 Ave NW. This closure is part of a court order aimed at eliminating illegal activities that have plagued the area.

Starting at noon on July 10, the property will be closed for 90 days, during which time all individuals, including the property owner, must vacate the premises. In addition to evictions, the SCAN unit will ensure the property is boarded up, fenced, and secured with new locks, preventing any further disturbances until the closure period ends on October 8.

“This is another example of SCAN’s commitment to keeping our neighborhoods safe,” said a local official. By tackling drug-related crimes and unwanted activities, SCAN is restoring peace of mind to law-abiding residents. Community members are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior.

The SCAN unit has been hard at work since 2008, successfully investigating over 10,000 properties and issuing more than 130 safety orders. Their partnership with local law enforcement, including the Edmonton Police Service, has proven essential in achieving these positive results.
