Alberta Launches New Program for Vision Saving Treatments

Great news for those living in Alberta! Starting October 1, the Alberta government is rolling out a new permanent program designed to save the sight of thousands. This program, aptly named the Alberta Retinal Treatment Program, builds on the success of the RAPID pilot project, giving more residents the access they need to potentially life-changing treatments.

With this new program, 2,000 more Albertans will be eligible for sight-saving injections. You'll now have more treatment options, with the number of available drugs increasing from three to six. Plus, all ophthalmologists in Alberta can participate in this program—meaning better access to care for everyone!

Many Albertans face serious vision challenges due to retinal conditions each year. If not treated, these issues can lead to permanent blindness. Thankfully, this program ensures that more people can get the treatment they need without the burden of high costs. All medications listed in the program are free, so there's no need for premiums or co-payments.
