Alberta's New Initiative: Protecting Nature While Supporting Landowners!

Exciting news from Alberta! The government has just launched two revamped private land conservation programs aimed at better supporting landowners while conserving our beautiful natural areas. With $10 million in funding, both the improved Private Land Conservation Program and the new Ecosystem Services Grant Program are here to make a real impact!

Alberta's landowners have already conserved over 142,000 acres since 2019, but they needed more flexible options. These new programs are designed to balance ecological conservation with the needs of farmers and ranchers, ensuring that land can be used sustainably for generations to come.

The Private Land Conservation Program, previously known as the Land Trust Grant Program, is all about keeping conservation funding local. By focusing on Alberta-based land trusts, the goal is to ensure that conservation efforts stay in the province and benefit the people who live here.

Furthermore, the new Ecosystem Services Grant Program is a great opportunity for landowners to get help with the costs of maintaining lands that provide essential ecological benefits, like grasslands and wetlands. These areas are vital for supporting local biodiversity and work as natural filters for rainfall, helping to prevent runoff.
